The Spelling Bee contest took place on 5th May in the auditorium at 10.00 am with students both from Ensino Básico and Secundário. From Secundário the winners were Miguel Dias (10º2) – champion; Helena Fernandes (12º9) – vice champion and Paulo Brito (10º3) – 3rd place . From Básico we have João Oliveira (8º2) – champion; João Costa (8º3) – vice champion and Soraya Bastos (8º1) – 3rd place.
About 85 students tried to spell 20 words the best they could in order to be selected as a finalist for the 2nd part and actively participate in the 1st Spelling Bee contest ever organized by the English teachers at Fernão Mendes Pinto Secondary School. This experience allowed every student to learn new words, have fun and socialize with each other for one and only reason: spelling words.
“After all, learning isn’t only possible in the classroom” said Tatiana Ferreira and “it’s very important that schools make this type of activities”, added Henrique Barry when questioned about the initiative.
It was definitely a very sweetie English contest to remember!
